The Assumpta Award is named for the patroness of the Cathedral, Saint Mary of the Assumption. On a semi-annual basis the Archbishop and his advisors bestow the Award on individuals who have made a significant contribution to the life of the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
Those honored by the receipt of the Assumpta Award are recognized for their devoted leadership in many areas of the Church's life. Like Mary, they have sought to follow Christ in all things. Their discipleship has brought the love of God to countless people, and it is fitting that their leadership and service be recognized by the Mother Church of the Archdiocese.
In 2018 those recognized were The Most Reverend William J. Justice (Assumpta Award), George Bovone (Saint Joseph Award), Melanie Morey, Ed.D. (Saint Patrick Award) and Vicki Evans (Saint Francis Award).
